February 2022 Tea and Books - Black Authors

February's theme was black authors. The group discussed works written by people all over the world. Oddly enough, most of the writer were female.  That was odd.

Here are some of the works that were discussed (that are available in the library):

  1. Wonderful works on this list!

Esy Edugyan: "Half Blood Blues" was such a good read that I began re-reading it a mere three days after finishing. The same goes for "Washington Black" and the two novels have very different storylines, settings, and characters. An author of great depth and empathy. I am keen to read her first novel "The Second Life of Samuel Tyne", which is available from the library.

Toni Morrison: I've read and loved "Beloved", "The Bluest Eye", and "Sula". Looking forward to reading her last novel, "Home".

Amanda Gorman: Hurry on over to pick up the American wunderkind's poetry collection, "Call us what we carry". Sublime.

And finally, I'm looking forward to reading "Scarborough" by Catherine Hernandez, a contender in Canada Reads 2022. Readers of David Chariandy's "Brother", the Scotiabank Giller Prize winner in 2017, might also enjoy Hernandez's novel.

    I'll stop commenting now...;-)
